What is biodiversity?
According to the Landscape Institute, biological diversity (biodiversity) is the variety and variability of life on earth. It is a measure of the state of nature and its ability to deliver benefits.
What is biodiversity net gain?
HMG states in their guidelines that BNG is a way of creating and improving biodiversity by requiring development to have a positive ("net gain") on biodiversity.
How does it affect the client?
If you are developing a site in England, you will need to consider whether or not your development requires planning permission. Since April 2024, every grant of planning permission is subject to the condition that BNG will increase by at least 10%.
